Sunday's and Beyond
For some people, attending a church for the first time can
be an intimidating experience. Walking into a new
situation with a lot of unknowns makes most people feel at
least a little nervous It's our desire to make your visit
with us as pleasant as possible. Therefore we have
provided the following information to answer some of the
general questions you may have about attending Calvary
Chapel Louisa.
Sunday morning
Service (10:00am)
At our main church service you'll find a good mixture of
people from all age groups and backgrounds. Dress tends to
be casual - with ties making appearances mostly at special
services (i.e., Easter and Christmas). We have childcare
services and Children's Ministry classes for children in
nursery through fifth grade. The children will be
dismissed after the second song.
Services are approximately one hour and twenty minutes
long with twenty-five minutes of praise and worship and
forty-five minutes of teaching. Our worship style is
contemporary with morning services typically featuring
present day praise songs and newly arranged hymns. In
recognition of the fact that Biblical worship is primarily
our response to God, we aim to sing songs that turn our
attention towards God, are full of theological truth, and
exalt Jesus Christ. At the conclusion of praise and
worship, senior pastor David Hansen will spend the balance
of the service teaching an expository style Bible study.
An expository approach to Bible teaching involves taking a
passage in the Bible, examining the original meaning of
the text (verse-by-verse) and making practical application
on how it applies in our lives today. Every first Sunday
of the month we share in communion as part of the service.
Sunday evening
Bible Study (6:00pm)
Our Evening Bible Study is dedicated to teaching
completely through a book in the Bible verse by verse,.
The evening begins with half an hour of worship, prayer,
and testimonies. Pastor Dave Hansen then takes the next
forty-five minutes to present a verse-by-verse study of
the passage for the evening. Our Children's Ministry
provides concurrent evening programs to serve the needs of
children from nursery through fifth grade.
Our desire is that everyone who attends CCL will discover
what it means to live in a right relationship with Jesus
Christ. We believe the Biblical way to achieve this
objective is through evangelizing, encouraging, equipping,
and engaging people in our fellowship and the surrounding
community.
Evangelism is extending the message of Jesus Christ to the
surrounding community. We challenge those attending CCL to
be ready to share the gospel with others as opportunity
arises. Almost as important as the message of the gospel
is the attitude of the believer who shares it We believe
effective evangelism begins with a believer who fully
recognizes the extent of the gospel's impact on their own
life. Compassion for others is born when we comprehend
(and continually remind ourselves of) the unconditional
compassion that God extended toward us
Encouraging the development of godly friendships is an
important part of the being a healthy Christian. God
designed us with a need for others Therefore, we strive
to provide a variety of ministry environments that are
conducive to building Christ-centered, meaningful
relationships. Oftentimes it is through our relationships
with others that we tangibly experience the love of
Christ. Click here for a list of opportunities.
Equipping people with the resources and tools to mature in
their relationship with Jesus Christ is an essential part
of our ministry. As people grow in their relationship with
Christ, the Holy Spirit equips them to better reflect and
represent the Lord in their daily lives.
Engaging in the life of the church is important in
developing and maintaining spiritual maturity and
vitality. Therefore, we provide a variety of opportunities
for people in the church to be actively involved in
ministering to one another. Click here for a list of
opportunities.
Oneaccord
These all continued with one accord in prayer and
supplication. Acts 1:14
Oneaccord is a more informal service where we will spend
time in worship, prayer, communion, and a time of waiting
on the Lord to see and experience His glory in the
ministry of the gifts of His Spirit. This service is
commonly referred to as a Believers Service or
Afterglow *.
* Afterglow refers to the Shekinah glory of the Lord.
* Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 PM
Unfortunately, no childcare is available.
And he [Moses] said, 'Please, show me Your glory.' Then
He said, 'I will make all My goodness pass before you, and
I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be
gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have
compassion on whom I will have compassion.' But He said,
'You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and
live. And the Lord said, 'Here is a place by Me, and you
shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory
passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock,
and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I
will take away My hand, and you shall see My backsides;
[afterglow] but My face shall not be seen.' Exodus
33:18-23
An Afterglow service is a special time of waiting on the
Lord to see and experience His glory in the ministry of
the gifts of the Holy Spirit. When we see His glory, we
will also witness His goodness, His grace, and His great
mercy on us. Afterglows are less formal than regular
church services and usually involve more direct
participation of the body of Christ. Several people may
speak in tongues, several may interpret, and several may
prophesy. All this should be in accordance with Scripture
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Excerpt from: The afterglow Henry Gainey.
In addition to the above, we will also have a special time
of worship and give believers the opportunity to receive
the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is our desire, that
this be done for the building up and edifying of the
saints.
...you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes
upon you... Acts 1:8
